Best political ad of the year -- liberal son vs. tea party dad

The Macomb Daily’s parent company, Digital First Media, has a nice story about a political ad that’s probably the  best of the year, so far.
A Massachusetts candidate for Congress is making national headlines with a campaign ad that plays off his openly gay status to demonstrate his liberal credentials.

In the ad, Carl Sciortino Jr., “comes out” to his conservative father -- not as gay, but as a “Massachusetts liberal.”
The two have a witty back-and-forth dialogue for about a minute about why Sciortino Jr.’s liberal views surprise his father, Carl Sciortino Sr., who is a member of the tea party and a registered Republican in Massachusetts.
The ad will be aired on MSNBC, CNN and Comedy Central. A campaign manager told the Boston Globe that the team is spending “hundreds of thousands of dollars” on the spot, which will run through the special election on Oct. 15.

Sciortino, who is a state representative, is one of five candidates vying to fill the seat in Massachusetts’ 5th District left vacant by Sen. Edward Markey, who won a special election in June to replace Secretary of State John Kerry. The district leans heavily Democratic.
