Is Tony Horton gay? The question that won't go away

The rumors that Tony Horton, inventor of the phenomenally successful P90X workout program, is gay just don’t seem to go away.
A number of my readers are fascinated with this subject, as I discovered after I wrote about a parody of the Horton speculation which demonstrated the paranoia about the “gay lifestyle” among the Religious Right.

The chatter apparently began in earnest two years ago when a church deacon, Tyson Bowers III, wrote on his website that, not only is Horton gay, he is using P90X to turn countless American men gay. Bowers called P90X “one of the largest homosexual front operations in America.” He added that he believes that the fitness program’s sales pitch to men is actually this: “The shape they want them to get into is in the form of a pink feather boa and ass-less chaps. With each 55-minute workout, their customers work up a sweat towards the path of homosexual.”
Many websites and blogs have also taken up the Horton-is-gay speculation. No information exists about the 55-year-old’s marital status. He is said to be single, though he is very private about his personal life.
Horton is in a position to toss aside rumors and innuendo. He has a global cult following that includes numerous celebrities and music stars. The 90-day video program he created, mixing elements of body-weight training, cardio, yoga and martial arts, has reportedly sold more than 3.5 million copies since 2005.
Yet, his past work as an actor and Chippendales stripper has riled some evangelical Christian conservatives.
In a bizarre twist, Bowers has also tried to tie the P90X program to accompanying nutrition guidelines that he believes are also intended to turn homosexuals toward the LGBT side of life. “How many real men eat basil tomato soup?” the deacon commented. Shakes and protein bars, common fare for gym rats, are packed with amino acids that “attach the gay gene to one’s DNA,” according to Bowers. “So not only are you huffing and puffing to great gayness, you are also downing loads of homo juice down your throat five times a day.”
Who is Tyson Bowers? According to his bio, he “proudly practices abstinence and teaches his youth groups the joys of a sexless life. Tyson travels the country giving lectures to students ranging from middle school to college about the dangers of homosexuality and liberals.”
Who is Tony Horton? According to Bowers, this is the sinister reality:
“If Satan had a Pilates instructor (it) would be Tony Horton, a former gay club go-go dancer turned international health guru. Tony’s main goal is to keep you focused on the task at hand with his quaky (??) one-liners and man-boy good looks. Tony makes you feel like he is your buddy, your pal, your new best friend. He makes you start comparing your friends to him and within 90 days he gets you to unfriend everyone you’ve even befriended and make you fall in love with him. You start to seek out your first gay relationship with men that follow the same physique and hair line as Tony. Tony is now your God, he is your anchor into the new world he has created for you.”
Hmmm. I wonder: who is the closeted homosexual here, Tony Horton or Tyson Bowers?
