In just 72 hours, Obama breaks promise on NSA spying

On Friday, President Obama announced that he was forming an “outside” and “independent” group of experts to review the NSA spy program and all intelligence technologies.
On Monday, the president issued an order that essentially forms a group of insiders overseen by James Clapper, the Director of National Intelligence, according to a story posted at emptywheel.net.
The same James Clapper who used to work for Booz Allen, Edward Snowden’s former employer. The same James Clapper who recently lied to Congress about the extent of the NSA snooping.

In a matter of 72 hours, the plan went from “a high-level group of outside experts” to a group that will be formed by Clapper and will report directly to Clapper, according to emptywheel. What Obama called an “independent group” at his White House press conference is now in the hands of the DNI, who has named the panel the Director of National Intelligence Review Group.

I wonder if the group members will feel comfortable enough to communicate by phone. Email? iPad?
