Mich. GOP's new initiative off to a slippery start

For weeks, the Michigan Republican Party has been advertising the idea that they are opening up 10 “new” offices across the state in advance of the 2014 elections.
But the list includes the Macomb County Republican Party office on Hall Road in Utica, which opened about four years ago. It’s not new. Not even close. Which makes me wonder how much of this GOP hype is merely fluff.

I’m not familiar enough with the various GOP offices across the state (see graphic below) to determine how many of the 10 regional offices are truly new. The Republicans said in a press release that the locations are located in Traverse City, Holland, Grand Rapids, Saginaw, Howell, Portage, Ann Arbor, Bloomfield Hills, Livonia and Utica.
Apparently these sites are considered new offices because they will now house one regional staffer who will be working, in most cases, in a multi-county area

At the Michigan Republican Party, we’re establishing stronger peer-to-peer, neighbor-to-neighbor relationships with voters,” said party Chairman Bobby Schostak. “We’ve applied our successes from past elections and looked at where we can continuously improve and find even greater success, and developed an entirely new ground game.”
On June 18, the GOP said the centers would open on July 1. Today, they said the openings will take place by the end of the day.
In addition to establishing or re-establishing the 10 offices, the party said it has hired 10 new regional field directors, four regional press secretaries and a statewide college campus coordinator.
