Today's agenda -- transparency, security and Hackel's Little Mermaid

Within a thick agenda packet for this morning’s Macomb County board meeting were items related to budget transparency, collective bargaining rights, homeland security funding, and notice of a local stage production of “The Little Mermaid.”

Huh?

The commissioners were no doubt confused by the inclusion in their packet of a Macomb Daily story about the play, which featured guest appearances by County Executive Mark Hackel and local business leaders.
As the Finance Committee session was coming to a close, committee Chairman Fred Miller revealed that he had copies of the news story placed in the packets “as kind of an inside family joke.”

Miller, who has tangled with Hackel politically in the past, said he was not poking fun at the executive’s extra-curricular activities. Rather, the Mount Clemens Democrat said he was essentially offering himself up as a Little Mermaid connoisseur, an aficionado on the 1989 blockbuster animated movie.
The father of a 2 year old and a 4 year old, Miller offered this bold statement:  “In the past year, I have probably watched The Little Mermaid more than anyone in this room. In fact, I may have watched it more than anyone in this county.”
