Hackel turns to social media as State of the County Address is a sellout

Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel’s State of the County address tonight is a sellout, with all 1,200 tickets distributed, but the county will be relying upon social media to make the speech available to all.

The event begins at 6 p.m., with a live stream online, from the Macomb Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of Macomb Community College in Clinton Township. The live streaming will be provided by MCC and will air on the county’s homepage, macombgov.org. Highlights of the speech will be tweeted in real time on the county’s news Twitter account @MacombNewsNow.

In addition, WDET-FM (101.9) will air the speech on a tape-delayed broadcast starting at 8 p.m.

As in the past, Hackel will feature new “Make Macomb Your Home” videos on a huge screen that highlight some of the county’s high points -- from the economy to recreation to education.

The county executive said the address, his third since taking office in 2011, should last about 30 minutes.

After the address, the audience will proceed to the increasingly popular Taste of Macomb afterglow featuring 32 of the area’s eateries and food facilities.

Guests are urged to share their experiences via Twitter at #MacombSoC and #TasteofMacomb.
