Hackel is (not) running for governor

Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel announced at today's meeting of the Big Four leadership that he won't run for governor and he will instead seek re-election for executive in 2014.
But Hackel's assurances were tainted by slip-ups.
His announcement, made at an auto show luncheon, was playfully greeted by a remark from Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson, who aimed at the numerous media cameras in the back of the room: "You guys need to hang onto that film clip."
Macomb's first executive later referred to his "State of the State Address," when he meant to cite his recent State of the County speech. Again, Patterson chimed in, declaring a "Freudian slip."

And when Hackel talked to reporters afterward he accidentally referred to "running for governor" -- he quickly corrected himself, saying he meant to say running for executive.
I don't doubt that the Macomb Township Democrat has decided that '14 is not his time, especially after he has repeatedly praised Republican Gov. Rick Snyder.
But it sure seems to me that running for governor is something he thinks about a lot.
